Our 3-Step Design Approach for Wellness

At Julie Schuster Design Studio we specialize in interior design by creating nurturing, supportive environments that are safe and accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability.

We believe wellness can be achieved by combining elements of traditional interior design, the ancient art of Feng Shui, and Living in Place:

Interior Design: At its most basic level, Interior Design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. As interior designers, it’s our responsibility to plan, research, coordinate, manage and ultimately execute projects for our clients. Basic principles of interior design include balance (to create a feeling of equilibrium), harmony (when all elements combine to create a unified message), emphasis (choosing items to feature of showcase) and proportion/scale.

Feng Shui: The ancient art and science of Feng Shui was formalized over 3,000 years ago in China. It translates to “wind and water.” In Chinese culture wind and water are associated with good health, hence Feng Shui equates to good fortune, and bad Feng Shui means bad luck and misfortune. Since good fortune comes in many forms including better health, a successful career, or a fulfilling love life – Feng Shui can have a positive impact on nearly all aspects of your life. Basic principles include Yin/Yang balance, Five Element Theory, Bagua regions and Feng Shui Cures.

Living In Place: All individuals have the right to live in their home for as long as they are able with independence and dignity. As a Certified Living in Place Professional (CLIPP), I believe Inclusive Design should be accessible and beautiful for all ages and abilities. Living in Place Design has to do with consciously creating an environment in which one can live comfortably and safely at any age or with almost any physical condition. Principles of Living in Place Design include: equitable use, flexibility of use, simple and intuitive use, perceptible information, tolerance for error, low physical effort and size/space for approach/use.

Wellness is achieved when these three design approaches are combined:

Interior Design + Feng Shui + Living In Place = WELLNESS!

We add value by adopting a bespoke approach relevant for each client to enhance wellness and well-being where it’s needed most.
