The Feng Shui Kitchen

ree

In Feng Shui, the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the home. It’s where energy, known as Chi, is prepared and shared, and its layout and design can have a lasting impact on your health, relationships, and even finances.

Whether you’re remodeling your kitchen or simply want to invite more harmony into your home, here are practical, design-forward ways to bring Feng Shui into your kitchen space:

Start with the Stove

In Feng Shui, the stove symbolizes wealth, nourishment, and vitality. It should be treated with respect — both in how it’s placed and how it’s maintained.

ree

  • Keep it clean and in good working order.

  • Use all burners. Rotating usage symbolizes activating multiple income streams and in turn keeps the energy moving.

  • Position matters. Ideally, you should be able to see the door while cooking. If not, place a small mirror behind the stove to have eyes on the entrance of your kitchen.

Clear the Clutter for Clear Energy

A cluttered kitchen can block energy and create stress. This is true for all rooms in your home, but a disorganized and messy kitchen could create contamination and health risks for you and your loved ones; making this step very important as the kitchen is supposed to nourish you.

ree

  • Clear countertops of unnecessary items.

  • Toss expired foods and clean out the fridge.

  • Use organizing tools to create a sense of calm and order inside drawers and cabinets.

Balance the Five Elements

Feng Shui is rooted in the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. A well-designed kitchen balances these elements to support harmony.

Wood: Cutting boards, floating shelves, herbs, add green tones.

Fire: The stove, candles, warm lighting, incorporate reds and oranges.

Earth: Ceramic dishes, stone countertops, sandy neutral tones.

Metal: Stainless steel appliances, hardware, white or gray colors.

Water: Sink, glass features in cabinets and decor.

Welcome Lighting

A well-lit kitchen supports vitality. Natural light is ideal, but adding artificial lighting such as under cabinet lights, decorative sconces, and pendants will help uplift the space. Having varied lighting, especially for when the sun goes down, is key to a welcoming environment.
