DIFFA | Picnic by Design

It is my pleasure to announce my eager participation in DIFFA’s 3rd annual Picnic By Design Event! Grab your calendars, pick up a pen and circle August 13. This is your chance to share a charming rooftop picnic for two and take home your own, one-of-a-kind, designer picnic basket; full of fun and fabulous picnicware. But first, here’s some info:

WHAT is DIFFA?

DIFFA stands for “Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS.” It is one of the largest HIV/AIDS service and education organizations in the United States. Since its founding in 1984, DIFFA has played a key role mobilizing the immense recourses of the design community providing more than $38 million to hundreds of AIDS organizations nation-wide.

DIFFA raises funds through strategic partnerships and unique events that showcase innovation and creativity. DIFFA’s supporters come from all fields of fine design and the visual arts including architecture, fashion design, interior design, photography and consumer product design. The success of DIFFA’s fundraising is the result of the imagination and generosity of the design industries and the volunteers who support it.

PICNIC by DESIGN:

Hosted by DIFFA as a sister event to their already hugely successful, DINING by DESIGN, Picnic by Design is an exciting summer event that highlights design, food and fun for a good cause. Conceived just 3 years ago by an emerging group of young design professionals in New York City, the event redefines the concept of a traditional picnic and aims to engage a new generation with DIFFA.

Designers are provided with general basket requirements and are encouraged to let their imagination run wild. The finished baskets are intended for two and sold online prior to the event. When guests arrive, they are escorted to their unique designer picnic setup, which they take home with them after the festivities.

WHY?

I chose DIFFA out of a desire to give something back to the design community. I love the idea of working with a well-established organization that is doing good things for the world. I’ve never worked with DIFFA before, so I bounced at the opportunity to try something new.

MY DREAM PICNIC BASKET:

My dream picnic basket would always include wine, cheese and bread. I also love anything in the way of grilled vegetables or otherwise, asparagus, corn salad, (the list goes on…). Barbara Barran from Classic Rug generously donated a rug for my picnic basket which has functioned as the inspiration piece from which I selected the colors and additional fabrics sourced from Robert Allen – who were an absolute dream to work with.

GET EXCITED!

See you Wednesday August 13 from 6:30-10:30pm at Midtown Loft & Terrace. I cannot wait to share all the pieces going into this project as it progresses over the coming weeks. Click here to find out more about the event, its sponsors and supporters, and to purchase your basket.
