Why We Love Incorporating Feng Shui Into Our Design Projects

At its core, Feng Shui is about creating spaces that feel as good as they look.

While often misunderstood as something separate from design, we view Feng Shui as a practical and thoughtful tool that supports both beauty and livability. It helps us refine how a home functions, how it feels, and how it supports the people living in it.

When applied well, it doesn’t change the aesthetic of a space — it strengthens it.

Our Approach to Feng Shui Consultations

We approach Feng Shui the same way we approach all design work: through collaboration and understanding.

Every project begins with conversation. We spend time listening to our clients, understanding not only the scope of the project, but what they truly want their home to feel like. What are their goals? What isn’t working today? What would a successful outcome look like for them?

From there, we dig deeper into the practical realities. This includes identifying pain points such as clutter, layout challenges, or competing needs among household members. We also consider logistical factors, like how the home will function during a renovation and what adjustments may be needed along the way.

Feng Shui then becomes a framework to help guide those decisions.

We connect Feng Shui principles directly to core elements of design — layout, scale, flow, light, and functionality — ensuring that every decision supports both the visual and functional experience of the space. Importantly, Feng Shui can be applied across any design style, from traditional to modern.

As part of our process, we often create a 9 Star Qi analysis, which helps inform color direction and spatial arrangement. This allows us to align the design with the energy of the individuals living in the home.

Color plays a meaningful role here. Certain palettes can support and strengthen the natural energy of a space, while others can help mitigate areas that feel less balanced. Similarly, the placement of furniture and architectural elements influences how energy moves through a home.

In Feng Shui, positive energy enters through the front door, often referred to as the “mouth of chi,” and moves through the space before exiting through windows or secondary openings. Our goal is to ensure that energy flows clearly and intentionally, rather than becoming stagnant or blocked.

For this reason, we prioritize these considerations early in the design process. Once layout, flow, and color direction are established in a way that feels balanced and supportive, we layer in the detailed specifications and finishes.

Why We Love It: It Improves the Feel of a Home

One of the most immediate benefits of incorporating Feng Shui is how a space feels.

Homes designed with these principles tend to feel calmer, more grounded, and easier to live in. Rooms feel balanced and welcoming, without needing to rely on excess decoration or overly complex styling.

Feng Shui also helps reduce visual noise. By clarifying placement, simplifying layouts, and aligning materials, spaces feel more intentional and less overwhelming. This has a direct impact on emotional well-being, creating environments that support rest, focus, and daily life.

Why We Love It: It Improves the Function of a Home

Feng Shui isn’t just about atmosphere, it’s also highly practical.

It encourages thoughtful furniture placement, clear circulation, and spaces that serve their intended purpose. When applied correctly, it helps eliminate common issues such as blocked pathways, poor lighting, or layouts that don’t support how a room is used.

It also brings attention to problem areas that might otherwise go unnoticed. Clutter, awkward proportions, or misaligned elements often become clearer through a Feng Shui lens.

Ultimately, it allows us to design homes that truly support the way our clients want to live, not just how they want the space to look.

When to Consider Feng Shui in a Design Project

Feng Shui can be incorporated at any stage, but it is particularly valuable:

  • During a renovation or redesign

  • When moving into a new home

  • When a space feels “off” but it’s difficult to identify why

  • When looking to improve comfort, flow, or overall well-being

Because it addresses both the physical and experiential aspects of a home, it often provides clarity in situations where traditional design approaches alone may fall short.

A Thoughtful, Integrated Approach

For us, Feng Shui is not a separate layer — it’s part of a holistic design approach.

By integrating these principles early in the process, we’re able to create spaces that feel cohesive, supportive, and aligned with our clients’ lives. The result is a home that not only looks beautiful, but functions seamlessly and feels right over time.
