Wellness is a critical topic these days. So much so that many people are already examining how personal health and well-being can be optimized at home. In her new book “Wellness by Design”, Jamie Gold identifies what she describes as “The Five Facets of Wellness Design”:
Health and Fitness: This includes everything from steam ovens to adjustable standing desks and ergonomic chairs;
Safety and Security: This includes stellar ventilation, the conscious elimination of trip hazards and smart-home technology/security;
Accessibility: A space that can be used by all people of all ages and mobilities (similar to core principles of Living-In-Place);
Functionality: A space that facilitates its purpose; and
Comfort and Joy: Personalizing a space in a way that enhances its value and meaning to the people that use it.
As we move into Fall with the COVID-19 pandemic raging on, many of us will continue to work from home, and even assist children learning from home, for the foreseeable future. Hence, how we use design to promote health and resilience has never been more critical.
Fall represents a powerful shift to “Yin Energy” – a period of slower, more intimate interactions with our natural environment. During this time, we subconsciously focus our energy as we prepare for the long haul of Winter ahead – a time to hibernate, rest and restore. It is also a time of contraction after the expansive outdoor nature of the summer season. For most of us, this summer has not been quite as usual, creating an even greater need for us to open our hearts to "see" what is most needed to create nurturing comfort in our environments.
This special transitionary period is a wonderful time to promote Fall Wellness Décor. Some of my favorite products to enhance wellness this Fall include:
Brooklinen Super Plush Robe: Made of combed, long-staple Turkish cotton and has a substantial 380 GSM weight. The robe features a piped collar, cuffed edges, deep pockets, and a sturdy waist tie.
Brooklinen Heathered Cashmere Sheet Set: Lightweight luxury made for sweater weather - ultra-soft cashmere and cotton twill keeps you comfy cozy.
Ergonomic Sit-Stand Desk with Monitor Arm: Creates an organized, healthy workspace. Built to perfection from Solid American Hardwood that is finished with multiple coats of a silky, smooth varnish making the desk resistant to stains, moisture rings and abrasions. The 3-stage dual motor lift desk is height adjustable from 25" to 51" and can be set with 3 programmable positions.
Apt2B Knit Throw: A splash of color, and some boho vibes with this super soft acrylic knit throw.
