The unprecedented disruption of the last two years has altered nearly every aspect of our lives, including everyday tasks as fundamental as going into work. While many office employees are still working from home, others across the country are now beginning to contemplate and plan for a return to their offices in 2022.
One such workplace was Union Tax who approached Julie Schuster Design Studio earlier this year to help reimagine their boutique accounting office in upper Manhattan. Our task? To help them create separate, contained work areas from what had formally been a large open format office set up.
The partners communicated that they were looking for something that demonstrated a certain degree of affluence while working within their current space which was rather compact. The office had a generous square open plan with terrific natural light and picturesque views.
We worked with Open Plan Systems to create two partner offices, three work stations, and a comfortable waiting area for clients. Based in Richmond VA, and made in the USA, Open Plan Systems offer high quality, budget friendly systems adaptable to almost any interior. And based on their close proximity, they are a much more sustainable option with no supply chain issues!
Our first step was to create a plan that would allow for successful installation of the mobile systems in the space, which was not so simple to do based on their amazing open windows. Next, we worked on several color story options that conveyed the values and DNA of the firm: safe, strong, knowledgeable.
In collaboration with our new client, we:
Created semi-private, socially distanced workspaces for all partners and employees alike;
Revitalized office layout to optimize flow and maximize exposure to large windows that bring in wonderful natural light and views of the nearby park;
Utilized modular office design with fabric panels that introduce lovely pops of color to the overall design scheme. These pops of color are reinforced and supported by our selection of neutral wall colors, carpet and accessories;
Applied core principles of Feng Shui design, carefully selecting auspicious elements to enhance the Fame and Reputation Bagua regions for the firm;
Enhanced natural elements introducing art that focuses on representations of nature adding to the biophilic qualities of the space
In addition to planning the layout and custom designing the space, we sourced furniture, lighting, decor and art. We also co-created a bespoke work of art combining the company logo with the taxation logos for federal and state. It is back mounted onto plexi-glass and looks incredible!
Our clients couldn’t be happier with the finished product and we are already planning the redesign of their next office space in the city.
