Gray tones have been one of the top neutrals for home decor for several years now. And while gray is not new, it is certainly not "old hat" either. Both major residential paint companies, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore, 2022 color predictions have been leaning toward green tones in their color of the year predictions. And while the Sherwin Williams pick of Evergreen Fog is best paired with beiges and oranges, the Benjamin Moore selection October Mist has gray undertones and works well with both more contemporary or traditional styling in decor.
So how do we choose the right gray for our kitchen, and what ways can we incorporate beyond selecting a paint color?
When to select a cool gray
If you are a lover of sleek and contemporary frameless flat panel design you might opt for more cool grays in your color selection. I'd suggest something like the Scavolini Boxi style in glossy finish, like Grey SCAV 302.
When paired with a Carrera marble looking counter in a beautiful quartz, the clean modern finish is crisp and cool.
When to select a warm gray
For a look that is more transitional and American, a warm gray is the way to go. This look from Fabuwood Cabinets is a great example. The color warms to the wood flooring and brass hardware in a beautiful way.
The Shaker cabinet front that they use is a timeless style that really goes with the homey feel of the warm gray. However, the best part of using shaker cabinets is how timeless and easy it is to switch up the tone of the kitchen. By painting the cabinets in a cooler tone and switching the hardware to a matte black like the picture below, a kitchen can achieve an entirely different feel.
So what’s in style right now?
Warmer grays are trending in the home as of right now! For inspiration on complete color palettes, check out Sherwin Williams "dreamland" theme in the Colormix Forecast 2022 (Felted Wool SW9171) and the "opus" theme (Samovar Silver SW6233).
