A referral from a past client, (something I always take seriously), I had the pleasure of working with a couple from Denver, Colorado. They were looking to update their studio pied-a-terre apartment to more comfortably serve their purposes in visiting their New York based adult children and young grandchildren. As we walked through the space and talked about the pain points that prevented them from enjoying the studio, I started to plan out the most effective way to utilize the square footage they had.
This is what we decided to do:
Bathroom Remodel
We removed the tub/shower combo and input a stall shower to give the appearance of a larger bathroom and for easier accessibility, while adding beautiful grab bars for increased safety.
We installed a double bypass shower enclosure from Encore for easier access to the shower controls.
The vanity was custom made by Empire to allow for a custom quartz top from TriState Marble and Tile to extend across the toilet to the adjacent wall. It’s a beautiful look that adds additional storage space.
A Vitality lighted medicine cabinet from Robern was installed with an internal electrical connection for toothbrush, razor or phone charging.
The bathroom got a facelift with all new tile and walls from Tilebar.
New bath fixtures from Isenberg were installed.
We created a dressing room outside of the bath door with a barn door to have the option to enclose the dressing room into the bath.
The custom created dressing room is complete with shelves to hold linens, storage baskets and folded clothing.
Kitchen Remodel
We removed all cabinetry, flooring and appliances to create a new flow; placing appliances like the refrigerator to maximize counter space in this small apartment kitchen.
New wood flooring was added throughout and into the kitchen for a more cohesive flow.
We fully opened up the entrance wall to allow for additional natural light, a more open plan and full zero threshold access.
There was no exterior hardware added onto the cabinetry to catch clothing, and the upper cabinets lift up for space saving full access; eliminating the problem of clashing doors.
A smaller, apartment sized microwave extends the space to allow for more upper cabinetry.
A Ruvati workstation sink with a new faucet from KIBI was added to allow for multi-purpose use with colander, drainboard and fully enclosable cutting board to extend counter space even further.
I’m very grateful for the trust this client put in with me, as we were many miles apart during this renovation! But everything went smoothly and I’m proud of the functional space I created in this studio pied-a-terre apartment that should give them years of comfort and access to their growing family without the need to relocate into a new space!
