Feng Shui and Stress Reduction at Home

As I’ve said before, “your space reflects your life”. So during these stressful times, you deserve to live in a place that is calm and restorative. Of course, upheaving and redesigning your space can cause its own stress, so let's start with how you can create a corner of peace in your home.

Select a space that is off the beaten path of traffic or limited traffic flow to mitigate

distractions. If you don’t have an dedicated space, strategically plan for a time during the

day when the home is quiet. It’s easier said than done, but waking up an hour or so before everyone else can do wonders.

If possible, situate the area around a window. The mental benefits to natural light are no secret. Vitamin D from natural light wards off depression, improves sleep, and increases energy. If you don’t have a space with a window, a light therapy lamp is a great alternative. I like the look of the lamps from Sunrise Sensations, but there are many other budget options that work just as well.

Comfortability is key. If you meditate invest in floor cushions, soft carpeting or even

something as simple as a yoga mat. If you have difficulty sitting on the floor, opt for a

comfortable chair with a good backrest. We can all benefit with some form of dedicated meditation (even if it’s 5 minutes) so here are some fun meditation mat options!

  • Everyday Yoga has a cool and budget-friendly meditation cushion option.

  • Pottery Barn has a great cushion options that you can buy individually or as a set.

Try to keep the aesthetic minimal. Do not clutter it up, otherwise it will clutter your thoughts. Don’t introduce distracting items like bold colors and loud patterns. This is a spot for calmness.

Accessorize with items that have mental and physical benefits.

  • Himalayan Salt Lamp: It increases energy levels, cleanses and deodorizes the air, and improves the overall mood of you and your space.

Introduce fragrance. Lavender, eucalyptus and sandalwood are great options.

These are just a few ways to create a corner of your home into a small oasis. The best part of creating something like this is that it’s deeply personal. The act of setting up this space is a form of wellness and self care, which we all deserve.
