Rattan has seen quite the resurgence over the past five years, and it’s not surprising! The use of natural materials such as rattan, bamboo, and wool fall into the “natural analogues” pillar of biophilic design, another trend that has boomed since early 2020. Best of all, it’s a very sustainable material!
Here are some ways we can incorporate rattan into our homes:
Lighting
Both the rattan trend and lighting design have an important element in common: layering. Using thoughtful layering techniques will create an intriguing and inviting atmosphere in your home, which is crucial for the winter months! Rattan lighting adds a unique texture and depth that is hard to replicate, so let's go over some of my favorite examples:
Antibes Medium White Chandelier from Currey & Company
Delano 33" Wide Pendant from Hudson Valley Lighting
Kana Table Lamp from Article
Lesley 78'' Arched Floor Lamp from Joss & Main
Furniture
For me, the main selling point for rattan furniture is its versatility. It can be used either indoors or outdoors, it’s lightweight for easy rearranging, and it can blend seamlessly with a variety of styles. Here are just a few pieces that stick out to me:
Fields Cane Back Natural Accent Chair from Crate & Barrel
Butler Selena Blue & White Rattan Bar Cart from Perigold
Anaise Cane Nightstand from Crate & Barrel
Rattan & Wood Rounded Door TV Cabinet from Nathan James
Accessories
If you’re not sure where to start, take a small step and incorporate a couple of accessories around your home. These could be baskets, coasters, or wall decor. Here are some of the few examples of rattan accessories:
Cane Rattan Basket Sets from Pottery Barn
Tava Handwoven Rattan Round Coasters with Holder from Pottery Barn
Nusa Rattan Wall Hooks from Consciously
Adobe Rattan Planters from West Elm
Incorporating natural elements like rattan is a great way to create a cozier atmosphere in your home for the fall and winter. As always, get creative and design with intention!
