When it comes to choosing a home, many people are often drawn to more established, centered neighborhoods in walkable towns. Homes in those neighborhoods are often older, classic designs that new owners want to preserve aesthetically, while also bringing today’s creature comforts in. Fortunately, our bathrooms can reflect both ideals when done correctly.Â
The best way to begin the process is to consider the architectural style of your home or apartment and use that as inspiration to conceptualize your design. It then becomes a bit easier to tailor that style of décor to reflect your tastes and preferences.
Here are some of my favorite highlights from the up and coming Vintage Bath Trend:
Â
Vintage pattern floors
Many of today’s best known tile designers offer beautiful, vintage inspired floor tiles. Regardless of style, patterns on the floor are back in a big way and can easily give your bathroom an authentically vintage feel.Â
Lighting:Â
Originally developed in 16th century Venice, milk glass or its original name, opal glass, is also evocative of vintage style design. It’s a great addition to Arts and Crafts style design or Mid-Century Modern décor.
Wallpaper:Â
In the 1870’s William Morris ushered in a new era in home décor with his beautiful and affordable wallpaper patterns, becoming a hallmark of the Arts and Crafts movement. His lovely botanicals, which are perfect in the bath, are enjoying a moment today.Â
Color Palettes:Â
Always popular, Mid-Century Modern continues to be a great segway to bring an older design to modern life. One of the easiest ways to incorporate Mid-Century Modern design is through eccentric color combinations. Choosing palettes with blushes, greens, and an eye-catching pattern is a great start.Â
A nod to the past doesn’t need to look dated and old. Honoring a style like Mid-Century Modern or Arts and Crafts is actually a great way to personalize your space! What often feels more dated is forcing your home into a style that architecturally and stylistically doesn’t make sense.
And let’s face it, it’s a lot more fun to embrace your home, quirks and all.
