Rejuvenate Your Home this Spring

It's spring! The changing seasons represent a powerful shift in energy. Seasonal transitions require us to find balance by making small tweaks to our décor, habits, diets and daily routines. The progression from winter (and hasn’t it felt like a long one?) to spring is perhaps one of my favorites. This magical time of year represents the end of the dark, enveloping Yin Energy of winter, as the vibrant Yang Energy of spring starts to emerge – slowly at first – but with increasing velocity – from first shoots breaking through to the joyous eruption of full blooms.

As a Feng Shui practitioner and holistic interior designer, I am a big proponent of the annual “spring clean” (check out my previous blog “Make Spring Cleaning a Joy – The Marie Kondo Approach”). But the springtime rejuvenation doesn’t need to stop there!

Consider these five design ideas to rejuvenate your home this spring season:

Enhance Wood Energy: Spring is the season of Feng Shui Wood Energy, which represents growth, expansion, abundance, vitality and vision. Too much Wood Energy can make you feel overwhelmed, rigid, stubborn and inflexible. However, too little can lead to a sense of depression, ambivalence, stagnancy and creative blocks. Consider adding potted plants, wood colors (chocolate browns, verdant greens, greenish blues) and shapes that are tall, strong, upright and rectangular.

Protect Your Wealth: Spring is characterized by action! Often, however, that action can come at the expense of your prosperity. Refine the flow of your finances in addition to organizing accounts, streamlining auto-pays, investing and saving. Consider meeting with an accountant or money manager to check in on your 2019 budget to see how you’re tracking.

Spring Clean Your Digital Environment: We live in digital environments more and more these days. Therefore, it is well worth the effort giving your inbox, iCloud and social media profiles some spring cleaning attention. Delete old or unnecessary emails, backup treasured photos and update your social media profiles.

Give Your Wardrobe a Refresh: Stagnant energy can manifest itself in your wardrobe too – this time in the form of clutter and over-worn clothing. By discarding or donating old clothes, you create space for new energy to flow. Rotate in your favorite spring/summer items but be sure to dry clean your winter jackets before putting them into storage. Want to get fit for summer? Pull your workout gear to the front of the closet and invest in some new runners.

Consume Lemons and Greens: Did you knows diet can affect the energy of our homes, too? It makes a lot of sense when you consider that we consume food for energy and function! Eat lots of greens and lemons to generate more wood energy, detoxify and have you glowing from the inside out.

Once you’re done with the above, open up the windows and let the sun shine in! Need help giving your home a refresh? We’re just one consultation away…
