Instant Zen at Home

Our lives have become increasingly busy. Demanding jobs, family commitments and self-care all take time and energy. If you are feeling overwhelmed with far too much going on in your life – we feel you! Chances are you and your family would benefit from some “instant Zen” at home.

When the going gets tough, give your home the instant boost of calm it needs:

Declutter and Clean Surfaces: Clutter has a way of creeping up on us. Too often it accumulates on surfaces and subconsciously instills a sense of disorder and chaos. Consider utilizing boxes, baskets, or bowls to organize bits and pieces that might otherwise cause an unsightly mess. For more de-clutter tips and strategies, check out my previous blog: “Make Spring Cleaning a Joy”.

Deep Clean Problem Areas: Every home has its problem zones where dust and grime have a habit of accumulating. It could be the shower, kitchen sink, wardrobe or main thoroughfare. Once you’ve identified the problem area in your home, give it a deep clean with natural disinfectants and feel the negative energy wash away with it.

Designate Technology Zones: The 24-hour news cycle, endless emails and relentless demands of social media mean technology can often run us down. Design your home so that there are designated areas for activities that require technological devices. Consider a TV den separate from the living room and an office for all work-related matters. Technology like phones, laptops and TVs should be kept out of the bedroom at all costs!

Fix What’s Broken: Broken lights, leaking faucets, or chipped paint? FIX IT! A no-brainer well worth a mention in pursuit of instant Zen!

Add Flowers: Introducing flowers is one of my favorite ways to instantly add Zen to the home, since they’re soothing both visually and aromatically. They add nature to your home while cleansing and oxygenating indoor air.

Acknowledge Happy Moments: Don’t let happy moments pass by uncelebrated. Add memories that excite you and bring a smile to your face. Frame happy photos, display family heirlooms, and feature art with symbols that bring joy.

Color Carefully: Color is the key to making your home relaxing. To instantly add Zen to your home, consider pops of blue, green and grey in the form of pillows and throws. White, beiges, and natural tones work wonders too!

Best of luck on your journey to instant Zen. For more ideas, set up a residential consultation today!
