Out with the Old, In with the New (Year)

2017 is just around the corner, bringing with it the promise of change, fresh energy, and new beginnings. Clients often ask me about my strategies for attracting wealth and prosperity heading into the new year. My approach is three-fold: clear out old/stagnant energy, visualize your desires/resolutions, and practice gratitude!

Clearing Old Energy

Over the year, stagnant energy accumulates throughout the home in the form of dust and grime. A thorough clean and de-cluttering of your house from top to bottom (with natural cleaning agents) before year’s end is the way to go! Wondering whether to “keep or throw” a particular item or piece of clothing? Ask yourself “have I used or worn this within the last year?” and “does this bring me joy and happiness?” If the answer is NO, it’s time to THROW! De-cluttering in this way unclogs energetic blockages and lets the good “chi” flow. Donating discarded items to charity (in usable condition) is a wonderful way to “give back” to the Universe, and will attract positivity back to you in the new year.

On a more spiritual level, energetic “cleanses” can be performed by burning incense or sage throughout the home or by performing an orange peel blessing ceremony. This removes negative influences and helps correct and compensate for known and unknown Fen Shui problems. The orange peel blessing ceremony in particular helps create a new beginning and fresh start in life even in the most unfortunate circumstances. Its power is to promote and enhance freedom and good luck – perfect for New Year!

New Year’s Resolutions

Whether you believe in new year’s resolutions or not, one thing is for certain – the Law of Attraction – or in the words of Ernest Holmes: “where the mind goes energy flows!” Whether you’re chasing the dream job, or eager to meet the love of your life in 2017, you must visualize it in order for it to happen. When you think about it, establishing new year’s resolutions is just another way of applying the Law of Attraction! Think about your goals, and how it will feel to achieve them. Commit them to paper or represent them visually by way of a dream board.

As an interior designer, I’m a very visual person. I like to create vision boards, either physically with cardboard and cut-outs, or digitally using platforms like Instagram or Pinterest. Reference your dream boards weekly to stay on track and infuse positive energy into them whenever possible.

Practice Gratitude

The benefits of practicing gratitude are nearly endless. People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to acknowledge and reflect upon the things they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems.
