From September 6th through 9th, I had the pleasure of attending the CEDIA 2023 Expo in Denver, Colorado. This is an event that I have been wanting to attend for several years now. My original attempt was blocked by COVID and it took until now for me to be able to make it happen. So I’m very happy to be able to share this experience!
The first activity of the show was a keynote opening address by technology and innovation expert, Scott Steinberg, who addressed the AI explosion and its impact. We had the pleasure of being invited guests of Technology Designer Magazine founders, Carol and Doug Campbell and partner Eric Schwartz.
Next, we were treated to a “Day of Discovery” including breakfast, lunch and a host of speakers and panel discussions on the topics of residential technology today and into the future. Especially interesting was the talk by Michael Don Ham on how to create healthier indoor environments.
On day 2 we participated in the 15th annual “Women in Consumer Technology CEDIA Expo Luncheon”, where the conversation circled around the relationship between the interior designers and technology experts. As a point of fact, both days focused on the theory that architects and designers have a greater impact on the health of our clients than doctors do!
After that, we hit the show floor. Standouts to me were:
All of the lighting systems and options available from Crestron and Lutron
Leon speakers and sound systems. I truly loved the beautiful sconce/speakers and the bespoke wood Monitor/sound bar surround frames (fully customizable)
Savant Systems; the best items were the Cync lighting options which is both decorative and functional!
LG made a hit with their “Stand By Me” rollable smart touch screen
Best swag that I brought home with me? A copy of the book, The House that She Built by Mollie Elkman and Georgia Castellano.
This children’s book highlights careers in the building and technology industries. Its intent is to show young children the people and skills that go into collectively building a home. Taken from the website, “With illustrations that connect and empower and words that build upon each other with each page, this movement will leave all kids (she, he, and they) excited about their own skills and interested in learning new ones.”
This was a gift of our speaker at the “Women and Consumer Technology luncheon, Quadra Evans of Zillow. Getting this message out to young people is a life passion of hers, and I couldn’t agree more!
The 2023 CEDIA Expo was well worth the wait, and I’m looking forward to 2024!
