Strengthen Roots and Grow Your Health with the Color Green

2021 will be remembered as a year of fresh starts and new beginnings. You can feel the energy all around you – an energy characterized by renewed curiosity and an eagerness to live life, and experience our world, to the fullest.

As an interior designer, it’s gratifying to observe this feeling of limitless possibility show up in our color choices for decorating – both indoors and out. Clients and vendors alike are taking bolder and less calculated risks when it comes to color – with shades of green quickly becoming a popular choice when it comes to capturing the sense of verdant optimism that we are all feeling.

The Feng Shui and Symbolism of Green: In Feng Shui, the color green represents the Wood Element, the part of the Bagua that correlates to family, ancestry and health – three fundamental sources of strength in nature and our modern world. From a more neuroscientific perspective, green calms our nerves and balances our internal systems constantly helping us to restore equilibrium. It should therefore come as no surprise that green also relates to our feet – our sense of connection and rootedness to the ground below.

Where to Use Green: As the Feng Shui color of growth and healing, green can be freely used in the East, Southeast, and South Feng Shui Bagua areas of your home or office.

Where NOT to Use Green: It is best to avoid a strong green presence in the North Bagua area of your space.

Layering Greens: Mother Nature doesn’t just offer us one shade of green to play with – but a myriad of tones that evolve and blend together. When decorating with greens, it adds depth and dimension when we mimic nature by working with several shades within a space. Try for an organic-feeling, uneven distribution by layering greens through vases, pillows, plants, accessories, art and wallpaper!

My Favorite Greens: Green has been capturing our attention and shining through is so many beautiful ways of late. Some of my favorite greens from Sherwin Williams right now include: Hunt Club SW6468, Leaflet SW9674, Valleyview SW9673, Glade Green SW9669, Lime Rickey SW6717, and Olivestone SW9670 Adding green to your décor with intention and power will further solidify your personal health, growth and ability to thrive within your home. We trust this blog will provide sufficient stimulation and inspiration to “GO GREEN!”
